Holgate Primary and Nursery

Pupil premium & Catch up premium

What is Pupil Premium and Catch Up Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England.

It’s designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the gap between them and their peers.

Schools are given a pupil premium for:

  •  Children who have qualified for free school meals at any point in the past six years.
  • Children who are or have been looked after under local authority care for more than one day.
  •  Children from service families who receive a child pension from the Ministry of Defence.

Catch Up Premium

The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the curriculum expectations in the government guidance document: Guidance for full opening schools. While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.

How do I get Free School Meals?

Children may qualify for Free School Meals if they attend a Nottinghamshire County Council School and the parent/carer receives one of the following benefits:

* Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400

* Income Support

* Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)

* Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

* Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

* The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

* Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after the person stops qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

* Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190

Children who receive income support or income related employment support allowance in their own right are also eligible to receive free school meals (this situation often applies to post-16 pupils in special schools).

You can find out more about applying for Free School Meals on our School Meals page.
