Year 6 had a very interesting workshop with Severn Trent. They learnt all about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable to flush down the toilet and put down the plughole. If in doubt, remember the ‘3 P’s’ Paper, Poop, Pee

They then had the fun task of filtering dirty water to make it clean again. Here are some facts they remembered:

“It takes 24hrs to clean the water after you flush the toilet and it goes back into the river” Alexandra

“Don’t flush any sanitary products” Anashe

“Fats and oils build up in the pipes and causes a blockage” Tahera

“The filtered grit is used to fill pot-holes” Noah

Only use wipes with the ‘Fine to Flush’ logo.

Two skip loads of recycled solids is emptied from the water every day.

The sludge at the bottom of the tanks is used to make electricity.
