Visit from ex-miner and linguist
What a wonderful afternoon Year 3 had last week when David – an ex-miner and Natalie – a linguist came to visit Holgate Primary School! We had lots of conversations about the equipment, artefacts and photographs they brought. We enjoyed listening to David’s anecdotes of his mining career. Natlie shared her research as a linguist, finding out about the different words and meanings miners had.
“It was great listening to all David’s stories about being a miner” Amelia
“Some miners worked in tunnels as low as 60cm” Reef
“They had lots of equipment to take with them down the mines” Alanna
“The canaries smelt the poisonous gas first which told the miners to get out” Joel
